COSHH Assessment — Chlorine (Cl₂ — Toxic Compressed Gas)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers chlorine gas (Cl₂) — a dense, greenish-yellow toxic gas with a pungent suffocating odour, stored as a liquefied compressed gas in cylinders. Chlorine is a strong oxidising agent used in water treatment, disinfection and chemical manufacturing. Only trained and authorised personnel should handle chlorine; SCBA must be available for emergency response.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?

- PPE requirements — full face shield with chemical goggles; SCBA for emergency response; chlorine-specific cartridge respirator for low-concentration routine work; PVC or neoprene gloves
- Emergency procedures — immediate evacuation; contact emergency services; stop release at source only if safe; never use near flammable materials
